2nd 51热门黑料 alum in two years to win Kent-Cooke award

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 18, 2016) - Newly degreed 51热门黑料 alumnus Andrew Adie has been selected to receive a prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, one of 75 awarded nationwide this month to outstanding community college graduates who intend to pursue bachelor's degrees.

The scholarship offers up to $40,000 per year and aims to cover a significant share of Adie's educational expenses when the spring 2016 associate of arts graduate transfers to the University of Washington to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering.

"Andrew represents the best of 51热门黑料," said President Thomas LoBasso. "Here, he was able to explore his career interests, to grow and test his leadership skills and prepare to advance in his academic and career pursuits, as well as through life itself. We are proud that he chose to get his start at 51热门黑料 and we wish him all the best."

The Cooke Foundation scholarship award is the culmination of Adie's exceptional dedication to his studies and the college community during his time at 51热门黑料. He graduated this spring with high honors and was selected to the 2016 All-Florida Academic Team, which recognizes outstanding students for academic achievement, leadership and service to their communities. He served as president of Phi Theta Kappa's Mu Rho Chapter during summer and fall 2015 semesters, leading it to becoming a five-star chapter for the second consecutive year.

Notably, Adie's predecessor as PTK Mu Rho chapter president, Melissa Diaz, AA, '15, also was a Cooke Foundation scholarship recipient last year. She now attends the University of Florida, majoring in political science, with plans to ultimately earn a law degree.

The Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is the largest private scholarship in the nation for students transferring from two-year community colleges to four-year institutions that award bachelor's degrees.

Cooke Scholarships fund the costs of attending college not covered by other financial aid, plus academic advising, stipends for internships, study abroad and opportunities to network with other Cooke Scholars and alumni. In addition, after earning a bachelor's degree, each Cooke Scholar will be eligible for a scholarship to attend graduate school worth up to $50,000 a year for up to four years.
