Placement Testing

Some students are exempt from placement testing.

Please see the College Catalog to see if you meet any exemptions criteria. If you have any questions about exemptions, please see an Academic Advisor.

All student and non-student examinees (regardless of age, testing for dual enrollment, or other purposes) must have a current/valid photo identification (ID) in order to take any examination. Failure to have the proper ID will result in examinee not being able to test.

  • Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT)

    Student can take the PERT exam in person at any campus (except for Advance Technology College) Assessment Center on a walk-in basis, no appointment is needed. . Please check each campus for available days and times.

    • Used to determine Math and English level placement for college credit programs
    • Reading, Writing and Math
    • Untimed, average time is about 1-1.5 hours per section
    • 30 multiple choice questions per section
    • Calculator is built into Math section for certain problems, handheld calculators are not permitted
    • Scores are valid for 2 years
    • $10 re-test fee for students that need to re-test any section, $30 re-test fee for non-51热门黑料 students
    • Testers are only allowed to take each section once per day
    Campus Information

    Remote Testing

    Students can take the PERT exam remotely. 51热门黑料 uses a virtual proctoring service to monitor the PERT exam remotely. This will allow the student to take the PERT exam online from a remote location using their own webcam and high-speed internet connection. 51热门黑料 will proctor the remote PERT for non-students, there is a $30 non-student proctoring fee (test and retest). Any 51热门黑料 students wanting to take a retest of any section will be assessed a $10 re-test fee. Remote PERT proctoring sessions are limited to 3.5 hours.

    Requirements for taking an online proctored exam

    • A government-issued photo ID or a Student ID card (with photo) must be used to verify the tester regardless of age.
    • A well-functioning computer (see minimum requirements below), NO tablets or phones may be used.
    • A stable Internet connection.
    • A webcam with a microphone.
    • Student must be willing to be recorded (video and audio) for the duration of the exam, this includes their surroundings.
    • Student must be willing to download and install software to their computer.
    • Agree to 51热门黑料's Academic Integrity Code.

    Minimum Computer Requirements

    • Operating System: Windows 10+ or macOS 10.12+ (Sierra) *Windows S mode, Chromebooks, Linux, iPads, tablets, and mobile devices are not supported.

    • Hardware Requirements: 1 GB available disk space, 2GB RAM, Intel Quad-core 1.8GHz CPU or AMD Quad-core 2.0 GHz CPU

    • Web Browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11+ Internet Speed**: 

    • Upload: 1 Mbps, Download: 2 Mbps

      Web Camera & Microphone: An external or internal web camera and microphone are required.  *Camera and microphone drivers must have been updated or released within the last 5 years.  *3D Webcams are not supported at this time.

    ** An active broadband internet connection is assumed since the examinations are done online. Hotspots and tethering are not supported at this time.

    Testers who are interested in taking the PERT exam remotely must email Lisa.Satterfield@DaytonaState.edu with testers name, 51热门黑料 student id number (non-student 鈥� for what college are they taking the PERT test) and what sections of the test does the tester need to take (Reading, Writing, Math). 51热门黑料 students must send the email from their 51热门黑料 FalconMail (student email) and non-students from their home college email for instructions on how to access the PERT exam remotely and to review remote testing procedures.

  • Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

    Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

    The TEAS is required for application to Dental Hygiene, Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), Associate Degree in Nursing (RN-ADN), Transition to Professional Nursing, Radiography, and Sonography programs at 51热门黑料. Students can take the TEAS exam in person at any campus Assessment Center (except Advance Technology College and News Journal Center) on a walk-in basis. Please check each campus for available days and times on the Assessment Services home page. Testers must give themselves a minimum of 4 hours to start the test before closing (or lunch) time.

    Starting July 1, 2025, only TEAS taken at 51热门黑料 will be accepted. If you took the TEAS prior to July 1, 2025 with another Florida Public College/University or online through ATI directly (Institution must say ATI TEAS by ATI Testing), your scores can still be used for consideration to one of the programs as long as they are still valid (3 years).

    • MUST have a valid physical (no electronic) government issued identification, must have photo, signature, and address. School identification is not acceptable.
    • Create an ATI TEAS account before testing (see TEAS Test Instructions)
    • TEAS consist of Reading, Math, Science, and English/Language Usage
    • 51热门黑料 programs only use the Total score, testers must have a 65% or higher
    • Timed - varies per section, total of 209 minutes, approximately 3.5 hours
    • 170 total questions
    • Calculator is built into the test, handheld calculators are not permitted
    • 51热门黑料 students can take the TEAS a total of 4 times in a calendar year (January 鈥� December)
    • Retesting can be administered after a 30-day wait period
    • Scores are good for 3 years
    • Fees - $70 for the test (debt or credit card is required) and $15 51热门黑料 proctor fee (students), $30 51热门黑料 proctor fee (non-students)
